Terms of Service
Last updated: July 26, 2026
Butler is a family kitchen assistant that helps you plan meals, track your pantry, and build grocery lists. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and LoRoCo LLC, a Washington limited liability company based in Seattle, Washington ("LoRoCo", "we", "us"), which operates Butler. You can reach us at [email protected]. By creating a Butler account or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't create an account or use Butler.
Who can use Butler
- You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live, to create an account.
- Butler is designed for an adult running a household. If you add children's names or ages to your household profiles, you confirm you're a parent or guardian doing so, and you're responsible for that information.
- You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials (Apple or Google) secure and for activity that happens under your account.
Licence
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Butler on devices you own or control, for your own household's non-commercial use, in accordance with these Terms and the usage rules of the app store you installed it from. We keep all rights not expressly granted, including all rights in the Butler software, name, and design.
Your account & household
You sign in with Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. You may create a new household or join an existing one with an invite code. Everyone in a household can see and edit that household's shared data — family members, recipes, pantry items, meal plans, grocery lists, and cooked-meal logs. Only invite people you trust to your household.
Acceptable use
When using Butler, you agree not to:
- Break the law or infringe anyone else's rights.
- Upload content that is illegal, harmful, or that you don't have the right to share.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to Butler, other households' data, or our systems.
- Probe, scan, overload, or disrupt the service, or circumvent rate limits and security measures.
- Use Butler to build a competing product or resell access to it.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app, except to the extent that restriction is prohibited by law.
- Misuse the AI assistant — for example to generate unlawful content or to extract data you're not entitled to.
Your content
You keep ownership of the content you put into Butler (family profiles, recipes, photos, chat messages, and so on). You grant us the limited permission needed to host, process, and display that content so we can operate the service for you — including sending the relevant context to our AI and image-analysis providers to generate responses. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account. We handle your data as described in our Privacy Policy and, for health-related information, our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
Food safety, allergies, and AI output — read this one
Butler's assistant is powered by third-party AI models and can be wrong. Meal suggestions, ingredient lists, substitutions, expiry estimates, nutritional assumptions, allergen assessments, and data parsed from receipts or order emails may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date.
Do not rely on Butler to keep an allergen out of a meal. Always read the actual ingredient labels on the food you buy and serve, and use your own judgment on food safety, spoilage, allergies, and dietary restrictions. Butler does not provide medical, nutritional, dietary, or other professional advice, and is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional. If someone in your household has a serious allergy or medical dietary requirement, follow the guidance of their doctor or dietitian, not this app. You use Butler's output at your own risk.
Third-party services
Butler integrates with services including Apple, Google (including optional Gmail and Calendar connections), Anthropic, Kroger, Instacart, and CellarTracker, as described in our Privacy Policy. Your use of those services is also governed by their own terms, and we're not responsible for them. If you connect an optional service, you can disconnect at any time from Settings inside the app.
Service availability & changes
Butler is offered on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We may add, change, or remove features, and we may suspend or discontinue the service, at any time. We'll make reasonable efforts to give notice of significant changes, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Butler is currently provided free of charge; if we introduce paid features, we'll tell you the price before you're charged.
Ending your use
You can stop using Butler and delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account, which permanently removes your household data as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that pose a risk to the service or other users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including your content licence for content you haven't deleted, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and governing law — survive.
Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, LoRoCo LLC disclaims all warranties, express, implied, or statutory, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement, and any warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, accurate, or error-free. Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of this may not apply to you.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, LoRoCo LLC and its members will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or business, arising from or relating to your use of (or inability to use) Butler, whether based in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or any other theory, and whether or not we were advised of the possibility.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to Butler will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us for Butler in the twelve months before the claim arose, or (b) US $100.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law — including, where applicable, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some jurisdictions don't allow some of these limitations, so they may not apply to you.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LoRoCo LLC and its members from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of Butler, your violation of these Terms, your violation of any law, or content you upload — except to the extent caused by our own wrongdoing.
Apple App Store terms
If you downloaded Butler from the Apple App Store, the following also applies:
- These Terms are between you and LoRoCo LLC only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for Butler or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for Butler. Support requests go to [email protected].
- If Butler fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to Butler.
- LoRoCo LLC, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to Butler, including product liability claims, claims that Butler fails to conform to a legal requirement, and claims under consumer protection or similar legislation.
- LoRoCo LLC, not Apple, is responsible for investigating and resolving any third-party claim that Butler infringes that party's intellectual property rights.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and LoRoCo LLC agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in King County, Washington, and each of us waives any objection to venue there. If you're a consumer in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction whose law gives you the right to bring proceedings locally, this clause doesn't take that right away.
Before filing anything, please email [email protected] — most problems are faster to fix directly.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update this page and notify account holders by email or in-app message before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Butler after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
General
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and LoRoCo LLC about Butler. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a provision isn't a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them to a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
